Thinking of Visiting Singapore?
How nice that you are thinking of visiting Singapore! Many people visit Singapore for different reasons, whether for work, as a stopover to visit other countries, or as a primary destination.
The Challenge of Planning Your Itinerary
Making an itinerary is not easy since, most of the time, you want to see a lot in a short time. For this, the most important thing is to orient yourself and start reading a little about Singapore and what it offers.
The Transformation of Singapore
We all know that Singapore is an incredibly organized and advanced city-state with one of the strongest economies in Asia and the world. Still, Singapore was not always like this.
Lee Kuan Yew (the first prime minister of Singapore) performed a miracle, transforming Singapore from one of the poorest countries in the world in the 1960s to one of the most advanced today. Singapore was not what we see now, but with a lot of effort and an incredible vision to plan for the future, Singapore became what it is now.
Living in Singapore: A Safe and Organized Haven
Having lived in Singapore for several years, I can attest to its impeccable organization, cleanliness, and remarkably low crime rate. These factors contribute to a sense of reassurance and security that is hard to find elsewhere.
I feel safe at night and during the day, whether in a lonely park or an alley late at night.
One of the things that impressed me was seeing how people reserve a table in the Hawker Centers (food courts with typical food). They usually use a napkin but sometimes leave their wallets and laptops. I once saw a girl who left her purse to show that the table was already occupied and went to order food!
Exploring Singapore’s Historical Side
If you search for Singapore on the internet, you will find Marina Bay Sands, the iconic hotel, or Gardens by the Bay, a wonder I am never tired of visiting, both at night and in the morning.
However, Singapore also has a historical part worth seeing; my favorite place to learn about Singapore’s origins is Chinatown, perhaps one of Singapore’s most authentic places, even though it may seem touristy. Exploring Singapore’s historical and modern attractions will prepare you well for your visit.
A garden city
Singapore is not just modernity and skyscrapers; it is a tropical country surrounded by beautiful trees and plants. The streets are adorned with wonderful vegetation, and the trees help lower the temperature since it is hot here all year round!
Dealing with Singapore’s Heat
We do not have marked seasons like in other places, and sometimes, the heat can be overwhelming; for this reason, it is good to learn to move and plan your visits and routes well so that you do not get heat stroke.
Nature Lovers’ Paradise: Singapore’s Parks
I have good news for nature lovers: there are many natural parks! They are all well-maintained and have marked routes. I am a fan of hiking, and I have visited almost all the natural parks in Singapore.
If you ask me which is my favorite, it is undoubtedly Windsor; I like to walk along its paths and pass among trees and plants typical of the place. I have seen wild boars, mousedeer, macaques, poisonous and non-venomous snakes, and beautiful birds. The highlight is crossing the suspension bridge!
Singapore’s Shopping Scene: Orchard Road
Many people’s favorite pastime is shopping. There are an incredible number of shopping centers, the most impressive of which are located on Orchard Road. There, you can find most international brands. Since shopping centers have air conditioning, they are an excellent place to take refuge from the heat.
The Foodie’s Guide to Singapore
If we talk about food, there is food everywhere here! Many Singaporeans eat outside since the prices are affordable and there is so much choice! There is food for all tastes, from the so-called Hawker Center, with dishes starting at a couple of dollars, to luxury restaurants with Michelin stars.
Multilingual and Multicultural Singapore
On the streets, you will hear a lot of Chinese spoken, but (almost) everyone speaks English, which is why it is straightforward to get around. Different ethnic groups mix here, and Malay, Indian, and Chinese predominate, but there is also a large community of expats.
Getting Around Singapore: Walking and Public Transport
Singapore is not very big. Most of the attractions are nearby, and you can walk from one place to another without a problem. The only problem is the heat, but you can prepare by carrying a hat and an umbrella. When you need a break, you can take refuge in a shopping center.
Public transportation works wonderfully and is cheap and punctual. Taxis are also an excellent alternative; they are affordable and accessible to order.
